Nearshoring: Mexico became a hub, and Brazil can be part of it

Factories relocating close to the American consumer created huge demand for components, machinery and services in Mexico. Where the Brazilian supplier fits in.

Nearshoring: Mexico became a hub, and Brazil can be part of it

Nearshoring stopped being a trend and became concrete reality on Mexico's northern border. Industrial parks are full, demand for energy and labour is high, and the supplier base still lags behind the pace of the car plants and electronics factories. That gap is exactly where the Brazilian supplier can step in.

What Mexico is buying

  • Industrial machinery and equipment, particularly for metalworking, plastics and food processing.
  • Auto parts and certified metal components.
  • Chemical inputs, packaging and steel products.
  • Engineering and industrial maintenance services.

The Brazilian advantage

Brazil has a mature capital goods industry, economic complementation agreements with Mexico under the regional integration framework, and a close time zone and business culture. What is usually missing is presence: attending trade fairs, having a local representative and understanding Mexican import documentation, which is demanding on technical standards and on the customs declaration itself.

A recent case: we supported a manufacturer of industrial baking equipment on its first export to Monterrey. Between standards approval, the ocean shipment through Manzanillo and delivery at the plant, it took 47 days. The company now ships monthly.

Logistics: ocean or air?

For machinery and large lots, ocean freight from Santos to Manzanillo or Veracruz is the natural choice, with transit between 20 and 30 days. For urgent parts and samples, air freight via Mexico City or Guadalajara solves it in 3 to 5 days door to door. In both cases the secret lies in Mexican clearance: we work with local customs agents who know the process and avoid detentions.

If your company supplies industry in Brazil, there is a good chance the same product is in demand in Mexico. TMLOG Global Trade maps buyers, validates technical feasibility and designs the logistics of the first operation.
